Art Therapy uses the creative process, combined with counselling (talk therapy), as a method of enquiry, self-discovery and exploration. It is important to highlight that you do not need to be an artist or hold the belief that you are "good" at making art in order to engage in the creative process and benefit from Art Therapy. Art Therapy can be beneficial for all ages. SunRae Studio is full of different art supplies to be explored.

We enjoy working with people of all ages. You can expect to be respected and held in a safe, non-judgemental space that will encourage open "self-expression in the art" for example, exploration of feelings, emotions, thoughts, ideas, connecting to yourself mind and body, resiliency, coping mechanisms..."we walk beside". Our practice is client/child-centered, trauma-informed and highly values cultural safety.

Sarah is a certified Art Therapist in professional standing with the Canadian Art Therapy Association.

Sarah has 8 years of experience providing art therapy and counselling services to adults, children and their families. Her practice is person/child-centered, trauma informed, neuro affirming and strength based.

Art Therapy uses the creative process as a tool for exploration. It can lower barriers in expressing oneself, often leading to some insightful conclusions. It is particularly beneficial when working with children, as younger people can be less comfortable or haven’t yet developed the capability of expressing themselves with words only. Creativity, imagination and play are naturally more familiar forms of expression and communication for children. Art Therapy accesses these modalities in its approach.

Annie (she/her) is a Certified Art Therapist, Registered Therapeutic Counselor, and a Canadian Art Therapy Association member. Her practice is trauma-informed and values cultural safety.

Annie works with folks who are experiencing the following: anxiety, stress (work, relational, transition, systemic oppression), grief, depression, gender exploration, mental health struggles, addiction, trauma history, creative blocks, and burnout.

Art therapy is new to many, yet intuitively we can understand that artmaking gets at something deeper than conversation using only words. This is particularly useful when working with trauma stories and folks who have not responded to talk therapy or counseling.

Annie has several years of experience working with folks with complex trauma backgrounds and welcomes collaboration with other mental health practitioners in the community. She is also an artist, mother, and social justice advocate. Annie’s personal art practice and practice in art therapy intertwine through the use of material, connection to the land, and her fellow artmakers in qathet, BC, the territory of the Tla’amin People.
