Art Therapy uses the creative process, combined with counselling (talk therapy), as a method of enquiry, self-discovery and exploration. It is important to highlight that you do not need to be an artist or hold the belief that you are "good" at making art in order to engage in the creative process and benefit from Art Therapy. Art Therapy can be beneficial for all ages. SunRae Studio is full of different art supplies to be explored.

We enjoy working with people of all ages. You can expect to be respected and held in a safe, non-judgemental space that will encourage open "self-expression in the art" for example, exploration of feelings, emotions, thoughts, ideas, connecting to yourself mind and body, resiliency, coping mechanisms..."we walk beside". Our practice is client/child-centered, trauma-informed and highly values cultural safety.

Parent and child art therapy sessions offer a unique opportunity for bonding and healing through creativity. These sessions are designed to foster open communication and strengthen the familial relationship by engaging in shared artistic activities. Under the guidance of a skilled art therapist, both parent and child are encouraged to explore their emotions, express themselves visually, and work collaboratively on artistic projects. This supportive environment not only enhances emotional understanding but also builds trust and connection, providing a safe space where both can learn from each other and grow together.

Sarah is a Certified Art Therapist and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor.

Sarah has 8 years of experience providing art therapy and counselling services to adults, children and their families. Her practice is person/child-centered, trauma informed, neuro affirming and strength based.

Art Therapy uses the creative process as a tool for exploration. It can lower barriers in expressing oneself, often leading to some insightful conclusions. It is particularly beneficial when working with children, as younger people can be less comfortable or haven’t yet developed the capability of expressing themselves with words only. Creativity, imagination and play are naturally more familiar forms of expression and communication for children. Art Therapy accesses these modalities in its approach.
